Project Detail

The Northern Access Road project consisted of the construction of a 6.4km dual carriageway including a high-speed access road linking Brisbane Airport’s international and domestic terminals with the upgraded Gateway Motorway. The scope of works included extensive groundworks, which involved solutions for ground improvements covering soil treatments and the importation on over 1 million m3 of general fill. Particular attention was paid to the management of the earthworks, including wick drains, high strength fabric and drainage layers. The project took a stringent approach to traffic management due the complexity of the project, centered on the upgrade of the Lomandra Drive roundabout, which was carried out under live traffic, coming to and from the airport.
